Membership
WSRID is
the Washington State chapter of RID (Registry of Interpreters for the
Deaf). RID is a national organization with a membership of over 20,000
professional interpreters, students, educators and transliterators. WSRID
is one of 54 affiliates established to promote and support the mission
and philosophy of the parent association. Membership in our
organization includes a subscription to the "WSRID Newsletter", published
bimonthly. It also provides reduced registration fees to the annual state
convention as well as other workshops. Most importantly, membership in
WSRID links you to a group of peers dedicated to mastering the complex
art of visual communication. Within this group you will find many networking
opportunities, ways to enhance your own skills as well as occasions to
advance the profession of interpreting in our state.

Being Involved as a Member
Being a member of
WSRID also means that you share the values of the mission of our organization
- specifically to support other interpreters. We all benefit from our
members getting involved with WSRID, making proposals to the membership
and taking part in the activities of our committees.Below are two articles
written by Catherine Kettrick that give us a real "how-to" relating
to the business of conducted by meetings of the membership: Read about Crafting
a Good Proposal.
Find out about the
Agenda Planning Committee,
and its role during meetings that use the Formal Consensus process (like
our business meetings at Conference).
