for the 2009 WSRID Annual Conference and Meeting of the Membership
to be held at the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick, WA
http://www.threeriversconventioncenter.com/
Friday October 9th- Sunday October 11th

We have a large and dedicated conference committee including members and students from the East PDC as well as from around the Tr-Cities area - they have great things planned for us!

  • Educational interpreter track with presenter Kathy Shearer
  • A track for experienced interpreters with presenter David Still
  • A Deaf Interpreter track (tentatively scheduled with presenter Ellie Savidge)

Look for more detailed info very soon!

And an exciting announcement about our West PDC:
we are happy to announce that the committee (the Professional Development Committee) has brand new co-chairs (taking over from Joey Graff and Jackie Matthews) - Dave Morrison and Val Sultan.  Many of you may know Dave, who currently teaches in the interpreting program at SCCC.  Val moved to Seattle last year from Southern CA and is working on her dissertation for a PhD in Linguistics of ASL from UC Santa Barbara; she works full-time at SignOn.

Look for more information very soon about how YOU can be involved with planning workshops
with the PDC!

And on another related note: we will soon have PayPal up and running on the WSRID website (www.wsrid.com) for easy on-line registration for conference and workshops, as well as for membership renewal - won't that be great?

A reminder from someone many of us know in WA to get out the RID vote:

Dear Friends and Colleagues-

Hope everyone is doing well back in the state I often still consider 'home'.  I just wanted to let you know that I am running for the Member at Large position on the national RID Board.  There are three of us in the running. Please take as moment to go to this link, read our statements and cast a vote by June 1st.

And an opportunity to view some amazing stories by Deaf Holocaust survivors, some by a friend known by the Seattle Deaf-Blind Community,
Doris Fedrid:

A Call for Recipes!
Just for fun, and also for FUNdraising!
We who have served on the WSRID board have enjoyed some fine potluck dining over the years and we have decided to put together a cookbook of some of the favorite potluck dishes we have shared over the years - we know you have some great dishes to share as well!  Please send one or two to Kathleen Morris at kbuckmo@aol.com.  We would also love some "food art" for the cover... Don't be shy!

***************************************************

And finally - we want your opinion!  We would like to see how the membership feels about the option of an E-Newsletter and so we have set up a short (four QQs) survey on Survey Monkey.  We would like to use Survey Monkey more in the future, to gauge how the membership is thinking about issues/activities, etc, etc so please look for the survey in your email soon and answer the four questions! Thanks!
